S/S 2012 Challenge #5: Lace Up

Lace as a fabric is timeless and has an uncanny ability to be girly and sultry at the same time, so it’s no surprise that it’s popping out in every mood/look this season.

It can get overwhelming with lace turning up in every corner from full lace pieces to trims, and to accessories.

Focus on the look you wish to project, maintain tasteful choices of quality lace, stick to the one-lace item-per-outfit rule, and you’ll be all set.

How the lace trend can fit every look you wish to project:

Arty – opt for thicker thread lace with an art-deco type lace design in a structured blouse and pair it with high waisted pencil skirt, and geometric accessories

Chic - this season welcomes lace in bright hues of red, coral, pink, green, or blue; and I’ll suggest getting a dress that is midi length and above; and keep the rest of the accessories simple

Classy - think champagne brunch white/off-white lace with fancy flats

Edgy – be rebellious; sensuality meets punk by pairing a lace top with a pencil leather skirt, studded accessories, and textured snake-skin clutch

Mad Men inspired – cap-sleeved lace top with full skirt outfit but swap the pearl necklace to a chunky pearl bracelet, remove the brooch, and release the big teased hair to soft curls for an updated look

Professional – take it from bedroom to boardroom by pairing a lace blouse with high-waisted wide leg pants and layering on a structured blazer

Romantic – pastels and lace exudes so much romance put together that you’ll be all set once you keep the color right, lace delicate, and hair soft

Sporty – take sloppy away from sweats, tanks, and casual Ts with lace applique, pair it with ankle pants/jeans, flat boots, and chunky accessories

Street chic – pair lace shorts with structured blazer, pumps, and clutch

Sweet – A-line cut sleeveless dress with power heels

Understated – sneak lace trims onto classic sheaths, skirts, or blouse sleeves to create visual interest to an otherwise plain piece

Uptown girl - swap the tweed for a piece of structured lace overlay, and pair it with skinnies and It bag

Not forgetting the shoes, my shoe pick for the lace trend will be heels with lace and studs details; fiercely feminine, it’ll go with every outfit. I promise. *wink
