S/S 2012 Challenge #18: The Evening Flat

“There’s something just so effortlessly chic about wearing flats after dark – they’re the perfect accompaniment to spring’s decorative dresses.” net-a-porter

This will be a two-posts linking “The Evening Flat” and “Go Global” (which will be posted next week).

flat sandals

First and foremost, flats will not (and should not if you choose and dress right) dress down your outfit.

You won’t believe that I, the super-high-power-heels-lover-girl, would say this, but it is important for every girl to have a perfect pair of flat sandals handy that can easily bring you from day-to-night.

I have one such pair – which I pretty much wear to pieces!

zara printed dress

I’ve paired mine today with a paisley print tunic dress that can be dressed up or down as well. This combination is also perfect for a beach-type holiday where it’s beach-casual during the day; and romantic-chic at night.

To choose your perfect pair of evening flat, bear in mind

1. Aesthetics:

– Find a pair with nice details. Glitter, Shine (e.g. metallic), or Beads/Sequins/Studs details will make a pair less casual; generally non-tarnished details will make the overall look/outfit more polished too.

2. Comfort:

– You have to try on both sides of the sandals and walk around the store a few times; take note of any details that cuts into your skin

– While flats are meant to be flat, too flat flats aren’t good for the feet for long distance walking, so find a pair with a very slight quarter inch heel for longer wearing

With these shopping tips, hope you can find your perfect pair that’ll last you for a long time!

Big fan of evening flats! Armed with your advice, I’m going to hunt for a pair with a quarter inch heel. Strappy bejewelled sandals with pancake flat soles look breezy yet dressy but comfortable they are NOT.
